Request your free collection bagWe'll send a bag by next-day courier - free of charge. Empty your cushion covers into it, post them back, and we'll refill them with new UK-cut foam. Typically 2–3 working days, free delivery both ways, no obligation. Prefer to measure your cushions yourself? Use the Foam Cut to Size tool - same UK foam, shipped flat to fit your own covers. Whether your seats have gone flat, your back support is sinking or the covers still look fine but feel tired - refilling the foam is faster, far cheaper and a lot more sustainable than buying a new sofa. We have been cutting upholstery foam at our Bilston factory since 1983; refill turnaround is typically 2–3 working days from when your covers arrive with us, and delivery in both directions is included. Five signs your sofa cushions need refillingRecognise any of these? It is the foam that has gone, not the sofa. All five are fixable in a few days. The cushion stays flat after you stand up. Healthy foam recovers to full shape within a few seconds. If it does not, the cell structure is collapsing.
You can feel the frame. If you are noticing the wooden frame or springs through the cushion, the foam has lost enough thickness that it is no longer doing its job.
The seat cushions slide forward. Worn foam loses its grip on the cover and starts shifting position with every sit-down.
Visible dipping or sagging. A clear dent where people usually sit. Cheap polyether foam typically reaches this stage in 18–24 months of daily use.
It has been five years or more. Even quality foam has a service life. Sofas in daily family use will normally want refilling somewhere between five and ten years in.

What we can refill - any shape, almost any sofaCushion shapes we cut every day
Replacement foam cushions to fit your existing sofa coversIf you still have the original covers, we can supply the cushion interiors to fit. We cut replacement foam for sofas and armchairs from every major UK retailer, plus vintage, bespoke and trade pieces - some of the brands customers refill with us most often:
Keep the covers, swap the foam - same sofa, restored comfort, a fraction of the cost of buying new. If you can send us the empty covers, we can almost certainly cut foam to fit. Not sure if your sofa is suitable? Email us a photo first - we will tell you straight whether it is worth the effort. Foam grades we use for refillsChoose the right firmness for the cushion. Seat cushions in daily use usually want High Firm or Reflex; back cushions and armchair pads can take a softer grade; commercial seating (church pews, bar stools) wants Reconstituted chip. If in doubt, ring us; a five-minute call usually settles it. Still unsure? Get in touch with our team - we will work out the right grade in a five-minute call. Full technical specifications for every grade are on our Foam Grades guide. Refilling vs. buying a new sofaReplacing the foam inside a sofa you already like is normally somewhere between a fifth and a tenth of the cost of a new sofa of similar quality. It also keeps the existing covers, frame, springs and your sofa's particular character - all the bits that are not actually broken.
Beyond the cost: a UK-manufactured foam refill is a vastly lower-impact choice than buying new. The frame, fabric and stitching of a well-built sofa typically outlast the foam by decades.
Why customers choose eFoam for refills
Frequently asked questionsHow long does the refill service take? Typically 2–3 working days from when your empty covers arrive with us. We dispatch on a free next-day courier service back to you. Will the new foam fit my covers properly? Yes - we measure each cover individually and cut foam to fit. A standard small allowance is added so the foam fills the cover snugly without bunching when zipped. What if I am not sure which firmness to choose? Ring us on 0800 0439990, or email a photo of the sofa and tell us who is using it and how often. We will suggest the grade we would cut for our own family in your situation. There is no obligation. Do I need to remove the old foam before sending? Yes please - empty covers only. If the old foam has fused to the cover (occasionally happens with very old sofas), get in touch before posting and we will advise. Can I send my own covers by my own courier? Yes. Use our free collection bag, your own courier, or send them yourself by Royal Mail. Please use a tracked or signed-for service - covers go missing in transit more often than you would think. Will the refilled cushion feel different from the original? If you pick the same grade and density, it will feel like the original did when it was new - usually firmer than the worn-out version you are replacing. If you would prefer it slightly softer or firmer, tell us and we will adjust. My sofa is very old. Is it worth refilling? Almost always, yes. If the frame, springs and covers are sound, the foam is the part that wears out first. We have refilled chesterfields, antique sofas and 1960s mid-century pieces. If you are not sure, send us a photo. How much does cushion refilling cost? It depends on the size, shape and foam grade. We will confirm an exact price once we have your covers (or your measurements, if you would rather measure yourself). For an instant estimate on standard shapes, use the Foam Cut to Size tool; for awkward or vintage pieces, send us a photo and we will quote. Is foam more comfortable than feather or fibre? Different feel, longer life. Feather and fibre fillings flatten quickly and need regular plumping. Foam keeps its structure for years - a 5–10 year service life is normal in a domestic sofa. Is there a video guide on how to measure sofa cushions? Yes - see our video guides page for the full walkthrough.
