Static Caravan and Holiday Home Cushions Cut to Size

Replacement dinette, lounge, bedroom and decking cushions for UK holiday parks

Replacement static caravan and holiday home cushions cut to size by eFoam

The lounge cushions in a UK static caravan have a strange life. Heavy use for ten weeks each summer, then closed up in a damp coastal park from October to Easter. Most owners we cut foams for are on their first replacement set, somewhere between ten and fifteen years into ownership. We've been cutting foam cut to size for UK holiday home owners for over 40 years. Willerby, ABI, Atlas, Carnaby, Pemberton, Victory Leisure Homes, BK Bluebird, Regal, Tingdene, the old Cosalt range. Every common build. Dinette booth seating, lounge sofas and corner units, master and twin bedroom mattresses, pull-out bed conversions, decking and sunroom cushions. All cut in our Bilston factory and posted free the next working day. The dimensions for foam cushions in static caravans tend toward 'house-size' rather than 'touring-size', so we cut single pieces up to 2000mm and supply jointed sections for longer lounge units where needed.

A static caravan is very different to a touring caravan or motorhome. The seating is larger, there’s far less movement and vibration, and many units are used more like seasonal holiday homes than constantly travelling vehicles. But caravan parks, especially coastal ones, create their own challenges. Damp sea air lingers through much of the season, strong sunlight pours through large front windows in summer, and the seating often sees heavy use during busy family holidays before sitting unused for long periods over winter with little or no heating. Standard domestic furniture foam does not always cope well with that cycle of intensive use followed by months of inactivity. The foam grades we use for static caravan cushions are chosen specifically for this type of environment, helping cushions stay comfortable, supportive and durable over the long term.

Most park owners we work with are replacing cushions from the original caravan build, typically anywhere from five to fifteen years old depending on when the unit was first sited. The original cushions were often made from standard polyether foam which, over time, has flattened, compressed in the centre, or developed the familiar sagging “bowl” effect across the lounge seating. Upgrading to higher-density replacement foam can make a significant difference, particularly with grades such as Reflex Superior foam or High Firm foam in caravans used for commercial holiday lets. Memory foam toppers are also a popular upgrade for bedroom mattresses where guest comfort plays a big part in reviews and repeat bookings. As with much of our work, if your existing covers are still in good condition, and many static caravan fabrics are heavy-duty contract materials designed to last for years, you can simply send us the empty covers and we can refill them through our cushion refill service.

Common Static Caravan Cushion Applications

All applications below are foam cut to size to your exact measurements at our Bilston factory, with free next-day delivery to UK mainland on orders placed before noon.

Lounge and Corner Sofa Cushions

The main seating area in the front lounge is usually made up of either a fixed bench-style sofa or a corner seating unit, typically with separate seat and back cushions. Dimensions vary between manufacturers, but most lounge seat cushions are around 450–550mm deep and 75–100mm thick. Reflex foam is the most common choice for replacement cushions, while High Firm foam is often preferred in caravans used for commercial holiday lets or frequent weekend use throughout the season. Corner units will usually include a square or wedge-shaped corner cushion designed to fit neatly between the two seating sections for a flush, continuous finish.

Dinette Booth Cushions

The U-shaped or L-shaped seating around the dining table. Often four or five separate pieces: two long bench seats, two seat-end cushions, and sometimes a corner block where the benches meet. Many dinettes convert to a small double bed by dropping the table down to seat-level, which means the cushion pieces need to fit together flat with no gaps. We cut everything from the same foam batch so the firmness stays consistent across the resulting bed surface.

Master Bedroom Mattress

Usually a 4ft small double or 4ft 6 standard double, occasionally a king on the larger units. The original mattresses are often the weakest part of the build, thin polyether foam that's broken down within five years. We cut bespoke foam mattresses to your exact bed-base dimensions including shaped corners and any cut-outs around fixed wardrobes. Reflex foam with a 50mm Memory foam topper is the popular spec for rental plots where mattress comfort drives guest reviews and repeat bookings.

Twin and Bunk Bedroom Mattresses

The second bedroom typically holds two single beds (3ft) or a single plus a pull-out. Larger units sometimes have bunks for kids. Standard singles we can supply off the shelf, or we cut to bespoke base dimensions where the second bedroom has been built non-standard. Reflex foam or High firm foam throughout for the kids' room. The second master often gets the same spec as the main bedroom if guests sleep in there during family visits.

Pull-Out Bed and Dinette-to-Bed Cushions

The extra bed that appears when the dinette folds down for the night. The cushions have to do double duty: supportive bench seating during the day, then a level mattress at night. We cut the seat, back and corner pieces to match the dinette platform exactly. Same foam grade and same batch across all pieces means the bed surface is consistent rather than firm in some spots and soft in others.

Decking and Outdoor Cushions

Most static plots come with decking and some form of outdoor furniture, rattan-effect sofa, dining set, sun loungers. The cushions for outdoor use need reticulated foam, which has open cells that let rainwater drain straight through rather than soaking it up like a sponge. Standard furniture foam holds water for days and goes mouldy fast. Reticulated drains in minutes and dries within hours even after a proper Yorkshire downpour. Tell us when you order whether the cushions live outside year-round, indoors only, or move between the two.

Sunroom and Conservatory Seating

The bolt-on lounge extension that's standard on most modern statics: full-height glazing, often the brightest seating spot in the unit. The cushions in there bake in summer sun and drop to outdoor temperature in winter. Reflex foam copes fine with the temperature cycle. Pure Memory foam doesn't, it goes soft in heat and stiff in cold, so we'd avoid using Memory toppers for sunroom seating even though they work well in the main lounge.

Which Foam Grade for Which Job?

Most static caravans are sorted with two or three grades. Our full foam grades and types guide has the technical detail. Here's the practical summary.

Reflex Superior Firm premium polyurethane foam for static caravan cushionsReflex Superior Foam. The workhorse and our default for indoor static caravan cushions. Lounge sofas, dinette booth seating, bedroom mattresses (as a base or on its own), pull-out bed cushions. Handles seasonal use, copes with the damp cycle of coastal parks, and lasts years longer than the standard polyether the originals were made from.

High Firm SF38 polyurethane foam for static caravan and holiday home cushionsHigh Firm. The step up where workload is heavy. Rental plots where the caravan is occupied most weekends through the season. Family hubs where the lounge is full every evening. Owners on full-time year-round park residency. Also worth considering for any cushion that doubles as a bed surface, where day-long sitting compresses it before the night-time sleeping.

Visco-elastic memory foam topper for static caravan bedroom mattressesMemory foam topper. A 25mm or 50mm topper laid over a Reflex or High firm base. The popular spec for bedroom mattresses on rental plots because mattress comfort shows up directly in guest reviews. Less critical for owner-occupied plots where you can swap to your own preferred pillows and overlay. Skip it for the sunroom and any cushion that sits in direct south-facing sun.

Reticulated open-cell foam for outdoor static caravan decking and patio cushions that get rained onReticulated foam. The differentiator for decking and outdoor cushions. Open cell structure lets rainwater drain through rather than absorbing it. Standard furniture foam outdoors goes mouldy within a season. Reticulated stays usable for years. We supply it in the same thicknesses as the indoor grades, all foam cut to size for your exact dimensions.

Park Rules, Fire Safety and Insurance

For most owner-occupied static caravans, the relevant fire safety legislation is the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988, the same standard that applies to your house. All our furniture-grade foam meets this by default.

It gets slightly more involved for plots that are rented out commercially through booking platforms or directly. Holiday park insurance specialists and some park operators expect documented fire compliance for furniture in rental units, particularly for plots advertised on the bigger booking platforms. If your park or insurer has issued specific requirements for cushion fire ratings, drop us a note when you order or contact us and we'll cut from the appropriate grade with written documentation that satisfies the paperwork.

One thing worth checking before ordering: some parks have rules about the type of foam allowed in fixed soft furnishings within rental units. Look at your park licence agreement or check with the park office. Most accept the 1988 regs as the baseline, but a few of the higher-end park groups specify CMHR fire-rated foam for any rental unit. We supply that grade with documentation when needed.

Park operators ordering for multiple units, on-site lodge refurbishments, or for the park's own rental fleet can benefit from volume pricing through our trade foam programme plus a dedicated point of contact.

Coastal Damp, Sun and Off-Season Storage

UK coastal parks are tough on cushions. Salt-laden damp air gets into everything from May to October, then the unit gets closed up for three or four months with the heating off. Sun through south-facing lounge windows bleaches fabric and bakes foam. A handful of habits will make replacement cushions last years longer.

  • Choose Reflex over standard polyether. The price difference is small. The lifespan difference at a coastal site can be five years versus eighteen months. If your existing covers are still in good shape, our sofa cushion refill service can refill them with fresh Reflex foam without you needing to send measurements.
  • Stand cushions on their edges before you close up for winter. Compressed flat for four months on damp upholstered bases is the worst possible storage. Two minutes' work for each cushion adds years to its life.
  • Throw in a few moisture absorbers before you lock the door for winter. The cheap dehumidifier crystals from any DIY shop work. Place them in the lounge, dinette, master and twin bedrooms.
  • Leave a small vent open if your park rules allow it. Stagnant air over winter is what produces the musty smell you get when you first open the unit in March.
  • Air the unit out for a few hours when you re-open in spring. Open windows and doors, let the air change over before you sit on the cushions or sleep in the beds for the first time.
  • Move outdoor cushions inside over winter even if they're reticulated. Reticulated foam handles rain. Frost and four months of darkness are a different question.
  • Watch for condensation on cold mornings. Picture windows facing the sea get serious condensation on cold autumn mornings. Wipe it off before it runs down the wall behind the lounge cushions.
  • Replace cushions on the south-facing side first when the time comes. Sun damage is uneven across the unit. The south-window-side foam goes years before the rest.

How to measure for static caravan cushion replacement

Four steps. Free next-day delivery to UK mainland on orders placed before noon. All work carried out at our ISO 9001 certified Bilston factory, in business since 1983.

  1. Remove and measure the existing cushion. Take out the old cushion, lay it flat on a hard surface, and measure width, depth and thickness in millimetres. Measure the foam itself, not the cover. Covers stretch and shrink with age - the foam is the honest measurement.
  2. Template any curved or shaped sections. For curved dinette booth corners, L-shaped lounge units, or mattress shapes with cut-outs around wheel arches, draw the outline on paper using the existing cushion as a template. Send the template in with your order - bespoke shape cutting is included at no extra cost.
  3. Choose the right foam grade. Reflex Superior Firm for damp coastal sites and lounges, High Firm SF38 for dinette booth seating where people sit for hours, memory foam for mattress toppers on the master and twin beds, and reticulated open-cell foam for decking and outdoor cushions.
  4. Order online for free next-day delivery. Place your order online before noon for free UK mainland next working day delivery. Whether you're refitting a Willerby, ABI, Atlas, Carnaby, Pemberton or Victory unit, every cushion is foam cut to size to your exact measurements and ships with full fire safety documentation for park insurance and rental fleet compliance.
