Plastazote Foam Sheets Frequently Asked QuestionsHow is Plastazote foam made? Plastazote foam is made by heating polyethylene and expanding it with nitrogen gas under high pressure, forming uniform, closed cells. This process creates a lightweight, flexible, and chemically inert foam with excellent resilience and performance properties. What is the meaning of 'closed-cell' foam? When it comes to foam, there is a closed-cell and an open-cell. Soft sponges are typically open-cell, allowing water to be absorbed, which you can then squeeze out with your hand. Closed-cell is when there are walls around each cell. Water or other liquids cannot penetrate, and the foam is more rigid. Plastazote is a superior closed-cell foam. Is Plastazote foam fire-retardant? Just like most materials, plastazote foam is not fire-resistant. If you put a burning flame under it, it's likely to burn. However, it is only expected to be set on fire with flames if it's next to a very high temperature. Ask us about our fire-retardant version of plastazote today. Is Plastazote foam toxic to humans? Plastazote, in its solid form, is non-toxic. However, it is toxic during the manufacturing process when it's in a liquid form, and gases and fumes are likely to emanate from it. When it's not in its manufacturing and melted state, it's safe to use for all kinds of purposes, including for children, medical purposes, and everyday purposes. Is Plastazote foam suitable as a sound insulator? Plastazote foam can deaden sound and is ideal in studios and other places where you don't want the noise to escape. Plastazote's relatively rigid body with closed cells can absorb sound. However, you should also note that we sell acoustic foams designed to be sound insulators. Can Plastazote foam be cut to size? Absolutely. At eFoam, we offer a cut-to-size service for all Plastazote foam sheets, please contact us for your custom quote today! It can also be easily cut at home using a sharp knife, hot wire cutter, or laser cutter. Can I use Plastazote foam as a lid or cover for my hot tub to keep the water warm? Yes, due to its excellent thermal insulation properties, plastazote foam is the perfect material for hot tub lids or covers. For further information, see our 'Foam for Hot Tubs' blog article. How do I stick Plastazote foam together to make a thicker piece? To stick multiple sheets of Plastazote foam together, you can use a general-purpose adhesive spray glue, which we supply in a 500ml can. Alternatively, the sheets can be supplied with a convenient self-adhesive backing. Is Plastazote foam waterproof? Yes, Plastazote foam is completely waterproof. Its closed-cell structure prevents water absorption, making it ideal for marine applications, outdoor use, and damp environments. Can Plastazote foam be used outdoors? Yes. Plastazote is UV-resistant and weatherproof, making it suitable for long-term outdoor applications such as insulation, signage, or marine gear. Is Plastazote foam recyclable? Plastazote foam is made from polyethylene, which is recyclable in facilities that accept PE foams. Check with your local recycling service for specifics. FREE Delivery!
